Troy Slaten is the managing attorney for Floyd, Skeren & Kelly's Criminal Defense practice. He graduated with honors from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He then went on to earn his law degree from Pepperdine University School of Law. During his time in law school, attorney Slaten competed in the Honors Trial Team where he gained trial experience in criminal defense. After graduation, attorney Slaten took a position with the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office. There he worked as a prosecutor gaining court experience and learning about California criminal justice from the inside. He then moved on to defend individuals who have been accused of crimes as a criminal defense attorney. He uses his unique insight of both sides of the law everyday when defending his clients.
Attorney Slaten is highly trained in criminal justice and the procedures used to gather evidence against his clients. The more an attorney understands these procedures, the better he/she can recognize errors when they are made. Troy Slaten is certified by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) to administer Field Sobriety Tests (FST's). He is also certified to use the Alcosensor Preliminary Alcohol Screening (PAS) device, commonly used by police to check BAC levels. It is rare for an individual who is not a law enforcement agent to possess this knowledge.
